Guidelines, Goals and Networking

  • Page Limits

  • 15 pages or less per session.

  • Copying

  • Each writer is responsible for supplying the appropriate number of copies. We do not have a copier at the studio. Please don't have two actors reading off of one script. Bring extra copies.

  • Video Cassettes

  • We will not guarantee that we have enough VHS cassettes for you to purchase, so we strongly recommend that if you seriously want your reading taped, to supply your own cassette. I recommend have 30 minute or less tapes for each class. You don't want to have a long tape to cue up and risk taping over previous material that may be vital to your growth.

  • Pre-Class
  • We open the doors an hour early so that you may distribute your copies to the actors and allow them time to look over their sides without eating into the actual workshop hours. This time is also provided to pay your sessions fees, chat, have some free coffee, cookies and treats and network with the other artists. Obviously eating at the studio is OK, we simply ask that you clean up after yourselves.

  • Special Guest Moderators.
  • When available.

  • Suggestions for Positive Critique and Targeted Comments
  • "I was engaged the most at - "
"The most vivid part was - "
"There were times when I felt disengaged, for instance -"
"The dialogue meandered at - "
"What were you trying to evoke when -", etc., etc.
Always explain WHY. Don't just slam a writer. Moderators need to question the writer's goals not only for the story but in their career in an attempt to help the writer critique his or her own work - for instance
"John if your goal is to shock the audience why did you - "
Get the picture? Tactful critique is an art. Practice before you arrive and bring some positive feedback!

  • Workshop Includes:

  • Suggested reading lists
    Shared resources
Shared marketing techniques and approaches to writing
Improv assistance with developing a difficult scene
    Copyright and contract issues
