HTML

My original and only goal in learning HTML was to get the word out regarding Riprap Writer's Playhouse. I never had any desire to compete with or learn extravagant design techniques. However simple and straight forward that goal was, I have found that web authoring can and has become addictive. Web sites take on a life of their own. While eventually I will have to further my web skills, for now, my primary goal remains the same - to tell artists about Riprap Writer's Playhouse.

I say all of that for one reason. The following recommended links are truly for a select group. That tiny, itsy-bitsy group of people who are still either afraid or think it would cost too much money to put up a web page. I simply cannot speak to those experienced Java kings and queens armed with CSS, Perl and PHP roaming the Internet. I am only here to tell you that you can do it and it is possible with that outdated computer, a simple text editor like Notepad and one book, like the one I read. There are plenty of books available at local bookstores ranging in price from 24.99 to 44.99 with all the information you will need. I bought the book HTML 4.0 No Experience Required and built this website from that book alone. I am not bragging. That fact is a humble encouragement to those like me who think "I can't do it!" to let you know that it is not only easy, but fun.

A List Apart
A great resource for beginners. This site covers a wide range of topics from beginning to advanced HTML.

Writers

Inkspot
One of my absolute favorite web sites is closed, but there is hope. Debbie Ridpath Ohi, Editor-in-Chief and Founder created one of the most supportive sites for writers on the Internet. She sold it in July 2000 and now, due to financial problems, it's been closed. However, they are trying to find a new home for Inklings. In addition to chat rooms, extensive market information and informative articles, she had a wonderful bi-weekly newsletter called Inklings which I think is still available in the archives. In the meantime, Debbie Ridpath Ohi may be reached at ohi@electricpenguin.com. Or check out her website at www.electricpenguin.com

Writer's Resource Center
Absolutely Fabulous! The Writer's Resource Center was created in 1994 to serve the needs of writers on the Internet. The Internet was a simpler place then, with only a fraction of the sites there are today. This site started out as a single page with a few dozen links. Now there are a many pages, and thousands of links, along with articles and job opportunities and book reviews.

A fascinating organization structured around radio broadcasts, this London based group is most interesting. I recently read an article by a writer whose work has been produced by IRDP. He writes about the process and his emotions as the project is developed for broadcast. Most intriguing!

Video Tape Plus
Videotape Purchases. Actors, Writers, Filmmakers in Los Angeles and surrounding areas, I must tell you about Videotape Plus, Inc. I have been purchasing videotapes and packaging from Videotape Plus, Inc. for over 4 years now and they're the best.
